So what exactly is pre-roll videos anyway? Pre-Rolls are the ads that appear right before a video online. Pre-Roll ads have started to become quite a common thing online. It is a very effective way to get your message out there. However, it is definitely something that has to be handled with absolute care. You have to be particularly careful not to upset the audience, as the videos can come out of nowhere. This is why we thought it might be nice to dedicate a little time to creating an infographic that looks at the pro’s & con’s of Pre-Roll Video Marketing.
Pre-Roll Video Marketing
The Pre-roll ads come in two formats: Standard pre-roll and TrueView pre-roll. The Standard pre-roll ad can be 15 or 30 seconds long. While, the TrueView ads can be longer than 30 seconds, but the viewers have the option to skip them after 5 seconds. However, with TrueView pre-roll, you are only charged if users view all of your ad or watch at least 30 seconds, whichever happens first (still with me?).
As you can see, there are some very are interesting advantages to pre roll advertising. However, due to the nature of how this type of video reaches the viewer, it is important that care and consideration be taken. It is true that there is a 100% watch rate (for the first 5 seconds anyway). However, this type of marketing does have a surprise factor that some people may find to be off putting. That is why some companies have started using the concept to their own advantage.
Volkswagen recently release a very clever Pre-Roll advertisement. In this video, the commercial itself clicks the skip button for you:
