Digital Media Day Profile: Millenials

The Millenials (also known as Generation Y) are the age group that followed after Generation X. This group grew up with the ever present technology always readily available for them. This also meant that the means to connect to this media were always at their finger tips as well. To celebrate the latest generation, we have developed an Infographic that looks at how today’s Millenials consume digital media on a daily basis.

These nippers don’t really see a difference between online and offline media. As such, the Millenials use all platforms interchangeably. TV shows are watched on mobiles, tablets and laptops.  Meanwhile, multiple devices will be in regular use at the same time. To Generation Y, technology and media is more of a right than a privilege. However, this doesn’t mean that they aren’t highly tuned.  In 2010, research was published in the Elon Journal of Undergraduate Research which claimed that students who used social media and decided to quit showed the same withdrawal symptoms of a drug addict who quit their stimulant. That’s some tough networking!

Digital Media Use

As you can see, this group of media aficionados are very good at spotting the difference between the fake and the real thing. This makes it more and more difficult to attract their attention in the long run. One of the best ways of connecting with this new breed is to not try and pitch sales at them. They have grown up around the process and can clearly cut through the act very quickly. However, there are some from this new clan that may take their digital media a bit too seriously.
