One of the most effective ways to use video marketing is to inspire your audience to actually participate by producing their very own material. Now, I understand that this is definitely easier said than done. But, if you can manage to build something for your viewers to engage with, then there is a chance that they might take the leap and make the effort. It’s called audience generated content!
We’ve seen music videos before that have used this audience generated content successfully. Just take a look at this video by Feeder, who requested their fans to send them videos.
It is simple, cost-effective and fun! But, the way they were able to even make this video is by providing content (the music) to fans first. Fans then responded by sending them back videos of themselves engaging with the content (the music).
It is with these types of principals that audience generated content can actually become successful!
So how would someone be able to even consider coming up with an audience generated content strategy?
Audience Generated Content Template
We can’t really expect them to come up with the idea all on their own. We must first provide them with the example. Show them something so engaging and inviting that would make them consider doing it themselves.
Don’t make it too complex
We can’t really expect the audience to master too many tools in order for them to recreate the material. So, please try to keep the idea to a simple enough premise. Maybe if we made sure that they could simply shoot their own video on their phone and send it on. That’s how simple it might have to be!
Encourage the recreation
We might not want to just let them come up with the idea of making their own content all by themselves. Perhaps we start to put that idea in their head. A competition for the best parody perhaps?
Provide a platform for the content
Now, it’s one thing to have the users create their own videos and share it with their friends. Its another thing to have somewhere specific where they can put it. Audience Generated Content always works best if other people start to see a bulk of the new material, as opposed to just one odd clip. So, maybe something like a webpage that people can upload it to might help.. At the very least, provide a hashtag for people to consolidate their material in.
